Teaching Artist Training

Arts for the Aging provides teaching artist trainings for organizations wanting to expand their reach to older adults. These trainings focus on our celebrated multi-disciplinary and multisensory approaches for virtual and in-person arts programming for older adults of all abilities: from active adults to those with physical or cognitive health conditions and their caregivers. The training curriculum is customized to meet individual needs and may include some or all of the following approaches:

  • Customized virtual or in-person training sessions exploring Arts for the Aging’s guidelines and methodologies
  • Access to our external teaching artist training handbook which includes case studies from Arts for the Aging teaching artists and current research on how arts participation affects older adults with various diagnoses and health conditions
  • Modeling opportunities for trainees to respond to workshop demonstrations and/or program observations
  • Personalized mentoring or collaborative support with experienced teaching artists of similar or complimentary arts disciplines
  • Support in curriculum design or adaptation to meet the needs and interests of older adults
  • Piloting participatory arts workshops with older adults and their caregivers, followed by post-implementation coaching by Arts for the Aging teaching artists and staff
