Save the Date: 30th Anniversary AFTA Gala

Arts for the Aging will celebrate its 30th anniversary year with a fall gala and awards dinner you will not want to miss. The celebration will take place on October 15, 2018 at the Top-of-the-Hay, the crown atop the historic and prestigious Hay-Adams hotel in Washington, D.C.

The gala will recognize visionaries in philanthropy, humanitarianism, and thought leadership in health, aging and the arts: Mrs. Teresa Heinz will accept AFTA’s 2018 Lolo Sarnoff Founder's Award for Philanthropy; and Dr. Jehan (Gigi) El-Bayoumi will accept the award in the category of Thought Leadership. As an activist and generous philanthropist, Mrs. Heinz has done so much for the arts, human health and aging, and environmental, cultural and societal enrichment in Greater Washington as well as across the nation. We salute Dr. El-Bayoumi for her advocacy and integration of the arts for health equity, her mentoring and support of professional artists, and her care for Arts for the Aging.

If you would like to receive an invitation to the Gala, or you are interested in event sponsorship, or joining the Host Committee for the event, please contact [email protected], Attn: Stephanie Heishman, event manager.

September Sparks

Even in the most prosaic and impulsive ways that we may dance or sing, write, paint or act, it is self-expression that brings to light our most extraordinary selves. Arts for the Aging will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year--three decades combating isolation and spreading joy and better health to older adults, especially those living with aging-related health impairments. In welcoming autumn, we share with you this most recent newsletter and moments from a sparkling year to date. This fall, AFTA board members will host artful parties and salons featuring special guests, and to support our good works. To AFTA Gala-goers and newcomers alike, stay tuned. We are readying to launch anniversary and Gala celebrations next year. Partnerships are developing with the Embassy of Switzerland, and The Phillips Collection with its forthcoming Paul Klee exhibition in early 2018. Thank you, as ever, for your care, friendship and support of AFTA.

May 21, 2017: 27th Annual AFTA Cup Team Tennis Tournament

Arts for the Aging hosts its annual team tennis tournament on Sunday, May 21. Come out to play at the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center where DC’s preeminent tennis event, the Citi Open, is held, and to see local tennis celebrities and stellar Junior Tennis players from the JTCC in exhibition play.

Enjoy a casual and fun awards ceremony and party at the stadium on the same grounds immediately following the match. Proceeds from the tournament will bring AFTA's award-winning arts engagement workshops to older adults in the D.C. metro region who need it most. The mission of Arts for the Aging flips the paradigm of old age by using creativity to turn isolation, loneliness, and loss into community, access, and joy.
