Built on a long-held tradition, started by AFTA Founder Lolo Sarnoff to revel with fellow Capricorns and friends each January, Arts for the Aging hosted a party at the residence of the now former Ambassador of The Republic of Bulgaria to the U.S., Her Excellency Elena Poptodorova. Major donors and supporters of the organization joined AFTA to affirm for the new year, and with the astrological goat’s hallmark sure-footedness, our commitment to scale new heights in achievement of our goals. We celebrated the caliber of AFTA programs in high-need older adult communities, with acclaimed pianist, Carlos César Rodríguez, and rising soprano, Fairouz El-Bayoumi Foty, who delighted us with an interactive musical tribute from the beloved opera Carmen; then all sang along using original lyrics written by participants in The Carmen Project, a multi-disciplinary AFTA workshop series led by teaching artists Peter Burroughs and Marla Bush at Family Matters Knox Hill and Deaf & Hard of Hearing Centers in Washington, D.C.  Photographs from the evening are here.
